Description
First time using GIMP for a special effect shot.
First photo (tripod) was me holding a frame around my head and arm. I locked the camera
focus, colour balance, ISO/f-stop, etc... and took another shot without me in it for the blank background.
With GIMP, I lassoed (with feather) my arm, head, and frame - excluding my torso, other arm, and legs that I wanted to remove. I inverted the selection and deleted anything that wasn't in the lasso. I then cut-n-pasted my disembodied head and arm onto the blank photo, and voila: A surrealist photo. (Really creeped out my mom when she saw it.)
Lesson learned: Don't flatten your GIMP file - I did, and noticed that my pasted section shouda been scooched a bit over to the right (note the tell-tale blue on my arm from the drapes in the background. Since the @#%$ file was flattened, I couldn't go back and fix it up.
